Welcome back to Smashville Fantasy Football podcast. We are entering week four, having wrapped up week three. This is going to be a little bit of a shorter episode for us. We, right At this moment have the Cowboys/ Giants game going on, so we want to be able to check that out too. So we're going to jump right into it here. Looking at the league landscape for Smashville League. In Week 3, NoHardThielens pulled off a big win against SimpleJack, which puts her on top of the standings at 2 1. No undefeated teams right now.

who was our last undefeated?

I know Wu Tang Financial Dan,  we might have had two. And I knocked off Dan and then someone knocked off

So no undefeateds left and only one winless team now, since you did Get your first win in there. Congratulations.

My hot take is victorious!

take was also victorious on that one.

I was a pretty hot take though.

It was hot going into the Sunday night games. I was sweating real hard.

Likewise, I made a not so hot take that I would lose and I did end up losing there. So I'm a little nervous at one and two. But not quite as rough of a spot as the Meg who is sitting at. Oh, and three at the bottom of the standings. What really hurts even more than that, I think is the points for Looking at the top of the list, NoHardTheLens has 417 plus points.

And TheMeg only has 241. It's gonna be hard to create that production off of the waiver wire. I think she needs to make some moves, but there's only so much you can do. Also a little statistic I came across today. In the Yahoo! Leagues, only 12 percent of teams that start 0 3 make the playoffs.

Historically. The odds are  in your favor if you're at O and three at this point.

That's  playoffs or  playoffs. Whereas we have 8 team playoffs in a 12 person so there's still hope in our league because we do have more playoff spots than where over 50 percent of the people make playoffs. 0 and 5 would, I would put the nail in the coffin probably.

0 and 5 you're pretty done, but you got to do some work from this point. I'm looking here at the waiver moves none for the Meg so far You got to get more active if you want to have some hope here. We did have that one trade. T Higgins did play for didn't have a great game, but at least recovered from injury probably expecting a better game this coming week from him.

Looking at the individual matchups, I lost to Chris CrunchyLeaves. Did not have very good performance across the board there. I'll jump back into that maybe with some awards that I dole out near the end.  MintBerryCrunch won in a very close matchup versus BestEaterAtRound. Mixing it pretty good, got the second win in there, but still a lower point performance than we saw from her in week one with 111 points versus 81 for the Meg.

You had your win against Wu Tang financial, almost 99 points for you.

I still haven't broken a hundred.

Even though you got the wind in there, your total points are still sitting there. Are you the second lowest right now? I think, yep, you are.

But I got Chubb coming back eventually,

Yep. That should help. Then Mitchie Mitch had a pretty big game.

High score of the week. 142. 58 points versus under the radar with 107.  68. And then no hard feelings continued the strong performance from last week where she had the second highest score. Score the season, I'm not sure if it's like the fourth or fifth highest now with 138.

47,  against simple Jack who  has a really strong team. This was a down week for him, but looking at his roster, I've been pretty impressed. I think it was an auto draft, right?

From Chris. He can correct me if I'm wrong on that.

But it is a team that I think could be pretty strong throughout the whole year. So that's our landscape. 1 through 8 make the playoffs, so no hard feelings sitting pretty. I am squeaking by in the playoffs right now at number 8, but nervous right here. Just outside the bubble is under the radar.

Followed by best eater around chase me if you can and the Meg. So with that, what actual games in the NFL stood out to you this week? I didn't get to watch as many as I had hoped. It was a really busy weekend with my family. So I really just caught the Jets Patriots game, which pretty much put me to sleep, and then I caught the commander's bingles game, which I surprisingly enjoyed a lot more than I thought I would.

That game was a very high stakes  I had three players playing, And then my opponent  had one player on in that game too. So there was a lot going on. the late points coming in the nail in the coffin that I was able to seal out the wind.

Chase, 26. 8 points, two touchdowns,

It, and before he got the second touchdown,  Back and   I got to the   up two points and then I was down a point or something like that. That game was pretty good.

Joe Burrow looked really good. Jamar Chase looked pretty good. Kind of Surprised that's how the game went.  would not  do as well. Jane Daniels really had to make things work for him. I think that later in the year, that's not going to work anymore.

Daniels, man, he made me a believer. as opposed to just believing because he's my QB. looked good! He looked better than I expected. I know you called out one, was it an overthrown pass to Terry McLaurin?

yeah, Yeah, there was the guy that was covering Terry McLaurin fell down and I think that was about when Daniel started releasing the ball and he overthrew him by  yards or something like that. was a surefire touchdown. I had Terry McLaurin and I started him, so I was bummed about it.

It didn't matter in the end cause he still scored a touchdown later and I won my game.

So maybe you're salty about that, but honestly I even missed that one even though I watched the game. That must be the low spot because he had a near perfect quarterback rating in that 23 pass attempts 21 Scored twice in the air once on the ground total dual threat there good for 29.

06 fantasy points. This is what the dream is with Jaden Daniels do enough to score in the air and then definitely score on the ground. He's doing mostly outlet passes, so I'm not saying he's, one of the best quarterbacks at all, but like from a fantasy perspective, he's doing what he needs to do, he's managing the game and he even stepped above just being a game manager this game by throwing in a couple deep threats there.

So he's Keeping the defenses honest, showing that he can actually complete those passes when he needs to. The majority of his passes are going to be short little passes off to the side, and that's fine, because then he can throw in a deep threat, throw in a run, and mix it up enough where he's going to keep defenses guessing, at least for the time being, until they figure it out.

So I was really pleased with that performance overall.

think  work for him. It's working now  a rookie. He does have a slightly different style  some of the other running quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson. once there's enough film on him. I think  coordinators are really going to lock him down and he's going to probably struggle or get different looks that he's not really used I know we were both talking in our private chat on Discord about how quarterback play was terrible over the course of so far this year, and it was pretty shocking that through  on Sunday, there was only one quarterback That has thrown for over 300 yards and three touchdown passes.

You had asked me to make a guess.

You're not, yeah, you're not going to get it. You're not

Okay. I'll do my best shot. At first I was like I guess a guy like Josh Allen, but giving, you're leading the question. It's not him.

I also said it was through Sunday night and they played on Monday. So, I'm going to disqualify Joe Burrow because it

Burrow also.  I'm gonna say I feel like someone who could get there. But I don't know for a fact that did. Dak Prescott is my guess. Dak Prescott's

Yeah. No.

he get close?

threw,

He threw 379 for two touchdowns.

Okay,

so He

He was close. He didn't have the third touchdown.  Yeah. he started, He started one game  And it was

 Dalton? The one game

Yeah. Yeah. Like, I mean, like, okay.

Okay. So that's how bad the quarterback play is.  Or in the instance of the Buffalo Bills, they got out so far ahead that, why leave Josh Allen out there? So they put in the other guy, so he wasn't out there long enough to put up 300 yards  the bills have been pretty hot on, on offensive bar, you have  red hot, get it, red hair, Andy Dalton uh,  I think that playing for

Andy

the quarterback struggling,

the big thing is what Aaron Rogers has been past his prime.

He's really old. Drew Brees retired. Tom Brady retired, you don't have those elite quarterbacks anymore. Where are they? They're either old because they're like Aaron Rodgers or Patrick Mahomes Josh Allen would expect one of them to be and honestly, like I said, Josh Allen would have gotten one of them, but Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen are probably the two biggest names at quarterback.

So you have a lot of other quarterbacks that are not there yet. Geno Smith never is really going to. Be a star quarterback. He's older. Doesn't have the same talent, but at the same time, he does a decent enough job to get them in position to possibly win the game, which is enough.

I mean, Heck there's three and over right now. But Lamar Jackson, he doesn't throw the ball that much. So fantasy might still be good, but in terms of other play, you're not going to see the same kind of play from him. As you would, let's say like prime time, Aaron Rogers.

C. J. Stroud struggled this week. You're going to see a lot of, I think, those rookie quarterbacks or those younger quarterbacks. Anthony Richardson I saw  of that game. Very bad.

I'm souring on him more, the more games I unfortunately.

this defensive coordinators have really done a good job of getting their homework together. Another article I was  talking about how of the big reasons why the passing game is really declined has been a lack of continuity with the offensive coordinator.

There's only been six offensive coordinators on the same team for the last three The rest of them are all brand new within the last three so you're going to have a lot of mismatching. And then of those six, only three have been with the same quarterback  all three years. Given that, I think that's also a pretty valid reason Offensive coordinator, you're getting a different schema, you're getting a different game plan  quarterback  that's been there  like, Hey, this isn't what we've been running or the quarterbacks so new and the Offensive coordinator is like, Hey, I have to bring this guy up to speed.

He's not used to running the show. I think that's one of the big reasons why they've been suffering a bit more the kind of sophomore slump, because now a lot of defenses are just saying, we're going to scheme, you're going to see things you haven't seen  Get creative. And offenses have not been creative back to be able to battle that. They're expecting that to change as the season goes on slowly. My observation that I would not be surprised to see is a lot of the younger quarterbacks

had mentioned Aaron Rodgers. I will say he's starting to look better again. Nothing blowing me away yet, but maybe he's shaking off the rust. Each game has been better than the last, and, last game was 281 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions um, and he, yes, yeah, and he threw it a lot, 35 pass attempts so he definitely looked competent in that one and looked like he can continue to play at a high level without blowing me away, but gosh, that game, Bored the heck out of me.

Jokobi Berset with Patriots, unfortunately. I like him having seen him on the Colts, but  down there in one of the worst starting quarterbacks for sure. From a fantasy perspective, maybe the worst.

Yeah,

haven't looked at the list of the Of all starting quarterbacks in their fantasy production yet. But it wouldn't surprise me if he was at the bottom of that.

They swapped out  Jacoby and put in Drake May and

did they? I didn't even

that near the end of the game. I didn't

Yeah. I didn't watch

from what I read on the article of the game and they asked the head coach. The head coach after the game, Hey, is  QB one. He said I have to  watch the tape and stuff.

So we'll figure it out. And then, what Jacoby's doing, isn't working.  we'll just put Drake May to just get some experience and see what he can do. And from what it sounded like  on the stat line was not super impressive, but neither was Jacoby.

So it's kind of even, and then spent all night watching film. Seven hours watching game film and afterwards he said  Brist, it's our starter. Drake may is not even close to being ready. So that was  fun thing to hear about. But now  the big takeaway is Jacoby is going to be there to stay and I still won't play  There's no point in having Drake may as a backup or like a, Hey, maybe he might start and he might be good. You're not going to, you're probably not

were tough to watch though.

They're going to

be

was just so boring

Yeah. I did watch the Packers Titans game, which was great. The Packers defense looked really good.

Malik Willis looked really good.  Probably not a super   value. He had a great game, so he had a lot of points, but also Jordan love is game time decision for Sunday.  Right now I'm starting Derek hard. Cause if I forget, or I miss the opportunity to make a change to my roster, at least I have a starting quarterback The Packers defense looked really good and they had what, six sacks, seven sacks some really high number  the Packers had a pick six really great two interceptions, a fumble recovery did a good job there. So they've been, they already think have almost as many interceptions as they did the whole last  the Packers were available, I'd probably be picking them up on defense.

Sam Darnold has been pretty interesting apparently to watch. the Vikings are three and oh they're playing the Packers this week. So I'm really concerned about how that's going to work for my real life interests as well as also,  Whatever happens there. I'm not exactly I should really go  when it comes to some of the other players i'm

surprised saints lost.

I started Derek Carr

Yeah, and of course Derek Carr only had what eight fantasy points, especially after a late   bad one. And thankfully my opponent also had a quarterback that  under 10 I had the Buccaneers beat the Broncos. That was surprising. Andy Dalton was surprising against the Raiders.

How did you feel about  The, Ravens Cowboys game. Are you finally happy with how they're using Derek Henry?

Hey, if he puts up 151 yards, yeah,

25 carries, 151 yards, two touchdowns.

Yeah. So that's good. And what was your stat from a previous week? You had mentioned like when Derek Henry does X

Over 20 carries.

Over 20 carries. So add this to that statistic.

Yep, of another

it's under 20

carries, 25 carries, you got your win. yeah, he looked good there.

I think there's no reason for them to not keep that up at this point.    Pretty good and anyone else who may own Derry Kenry can feel pretty good about him going forward,

 proven his effectiveness for sure.

Yep, they need to just keep that in their game plan. Games for this week. Definitely I would pick the Cowboys  to win.  I'm cheating. Sorry.

 yeah,

oh, you looking at the score there?

A little bit, but at the same time, I would still pick the Cowboys. Anyway,

I don't feel like Daniel Jones is   have it.

I probably picked the Vikings over the Packers, regardless love starts or not. I would like to say the saints over the Falcons, they look bad last week.

It was such a turnaround that it was surprising. Because they looked so great the first two weeks. I'll still say Saints. Let's just say one bad game for now. Although Alvin Kamara has a little questionable tag right now, so I'm curious if he's going to be  or if he's going to play or not.

Yeah, I hate the questionable tag. I use probable more often or doubtful more often,  so then you get an idea of, hey, this is the way it looks. So I'm going to say Saints and Falcons. I'm probably going to say Rams over the Bears. Matt Stafford needs to get his get, going.

He's got the ability. They just have not done a good job of Steelers Colts, Steelers being 3 0 right now is surprising. I could see this one being more of a defensive battle and therefore the  Steelers might take it,  it's hard for me to go against Jonathan Taylor. Broncos Jets. I feel like the Jets are, Automatic win on that one.

gonna be wrong. So, you know, whatever,

I would think so too,

the eagles have looked

Eagles.

Yeah. I'll

give it to the Eagles

buccaneers were a shoe in until they lost last week pretty badly. So i'm gonna probably  Bangles panthers bangles are gonna finally get their first

Bengals. Even though they're oh, and three and Panthers.  Yeah.

They're one of the best 0 3 teams I've ever seen

Yeah, for real. I really thought they'd beat the

yeah, the Jaguars look terrible,  last week,   Cardinals commanders is one that is, I expected both teams to be pretty mediocre, probably be 3, and they're 2  I want to say the commanders, but I hate saying that. I'm going to say nothing.

I'm going to say it's a

I want to say commanders.

I don't like either team right now. Patriots Niners, Niners should win that one pretty The Browns Raiders is probably going to similar to England game last week. I feel like that's awful.

Yeah, so who do you think is going to win? I don't have a strong opinion.

man, I wanted to say the Raiders, but their defense has not been the way I thought they would the Browns offense also is not very good right now.  The Raiders offense is also not good. I might just say Raiders and just say, I don't really care if I'm wrong.  The Chargers.

sucks here, is the ruling.

Yeah, JK Dobbins needs to go off in order for the  Bills beat the Ravens. It's not going to be even That's going to be my hot take, but that doesn't  Dolphins, Titans, I think that game is just a loss like for everybody that watches.

I haven't watched any Titans yet.

Oh, they were there.

Will Levis looks terrible. He's 579 yards through three games, four touchdowns, five  and at least

The Dolphins just need

quarterback. I mean, they got some talent. They got some talent.  They got, obviously, Devon O'Shane, Tyree Kill, Raheem Mostert when he comes back. Is

nearing coming back? I'm not

I don't think it matters. I  career, I think  not to say that he doesn't have the ability to play, but he's what, 31, 30, 31 and production  mediocre this year so far when he has touched the ball. I don't think anyone's going to really take a gamble on him or he might become a RB to somewhere else, but

he hasn't had too much opportunity yet this year

No, but  it doesn't look good when and you have an injury like that.

So I'm going to. Say his fantasy career   on the over side rather than continuing to be a reasonable player

And then what last one Seahawks, lions. What were you

Oh, lions. I'm picking lions,

Really?

I think it's going to be an easier win.

I think the big winners in terms of  fantasy points are going to possibly Marvin Harrison Jr. I can see Jaden also doing well in that game. CJ Stroud, I think is going to have a pretty good game. Joe Mixon's probably going to have a pretty decent game as well.

Joe Burrell's going to light up the Panthers.  Chase also does well.

Do you want to transition into hot takes?  We can sprinkle in some hot takes here since we're making

just general

predictions.

Joe Burrow is going to have at least two touchdowns and 300 yards this

 Yeah. It wouldn't

surprise me given this last game. Yeah.  I'm going to go out there. You're going to disagree with me, I think, but  I'm going to stay on the Jaden Daniels hype train. This is a long term view, so we're going to have to track it, I think Jaden Daniels will finish the season as a top five Fantasy points scored quarterback

Okay.

and I wouldn't rank him top five like if

 No, but you're talking, ranking

quarterbacks, but from fantasy, I think he's there And maybe it's not even a stretch because through three games.

He's number three. So It's not actually too surprising if you try to extrapolate it, but who knows what's going to happen, Injuries could be a concern for sure, and that would completely derail it. I forget the exact statistic, but during the last game, the announcers mentioned that He ran the ball X number of times, like a ridiculous number, but he only slid two times.

So he's running into contact every time. That could be a concern. I'm not going to

Yeah, there was also a stat during that game, through the first three games of his career,  he has run as a quarterback. He is the second most rushing yards.

Yeah.

bet he might have moved up to number

I think he did from what I

The number one was, I think, Warren  and number three was

robert Griffin the third or as I like to call him our  So because he had several knee

Warren Moon has some hype or accolades to him But those names are not  that you would feel super happy being named with  And saying, Hey, your career ends up lining up similar to Robert Griffin, the third or Warren moon.

I'm not picking him as a dynasty quarterback, but this season I'll make a top five fantasy prediction. 38 rushes through three games, though. Three rushing touchdowns. Of those 38 rushes, two, maybe it ended up being three by the end of the game, were to give yourself up.

And the rest, he was taking contact.

Or running out of bounds. I don't know if those

Maybe right now to balance. I'm not sure how they count that, but yeah, way too much contact though. So obviously that is a major risk. I think maybe I'll throw out another one out there.

I was looking at our team matchups in our league and trying to figure who might have  really close game and who might have a bigger spread, and at first I wanted to say that no hard feelings and Mitchy Mitch were like really closely matched in terms of like points So I wanted to say oh there'd be a small spread there, but given their ceiling I don't think it's gonna be as small of a spread as I first thought because when you get up there it You know, 160 points.

Some games, there's a lot of volatility there, which means bigger spread in the final score. But I will say with that game, I think they're going to have the most points scored the season between the two of them, which means they'll need at least like 268 points between those two teams. So there's my other hot take.

We're gonna say that they're going to average out to have the biggest scoring game there. I think your game with the Meg might have the potential to go the other way, but I'm not going to  quite make a prediction on that  I think you're going to win it.

But I think the total points scored will be lower, so I'm not willing to say it's going to be the biggest spread or the smallest spread.

Do you want to say it's going to be the lowest scoring

I'm not quite willing to. It was on my list, if possible, but I'm not going to commit to that.

We are the two lowest scoring teams in the

Yeah. Yeah.  If you want to say it, you can use it.

No

but those are mine for the week. We'll see how it goes. My record's a little spotty on these guest estimations.

Do you want to move on to some awards? I'd like to give out some awards or

actually I don't want to give one of

I'm gonna, give myself an award. I got my first game of the That is my word.

there. That a boy award.

Yeah. And you know what? I should also give myself an award for always choosing a bad quarterback and the quarterback's bad week.

Yeah.  Yeah.

Yeah. No, That's

real tough when you've gone through so many quarterbacks this year with injuries and everything and then

yeah, it's only we're only through the

guy.

Four QBs on your roster, three games. Is that it?

Yeah. Because I've cut several and  so on so forth. Now I'm down to two. I also want to say that I don't know if I could have actually scored more points even if I use my bench and

Yeah.

very underwhelming point production, for instance, 5.

4 for J. K. Dobbins and 4. 8 for Josh

Yeah. Yeah. I don't think it would make much of difference either. So spoiler alert, no bench blunder for you. But I do have a few nominees, a few things that stood out to me. Some are debatable, may disagree, but I saw that Mitchy Mitch left Aaron Jones on the bench instead of Tony Pollard. I didn't like that. It's not like outrageous, but the end result was more dramatic than I think the difference in the call would have been expected to be. But Aaron Jones scored 20. 8 on the bench. For Mitch and Tony Pollard only got him 2. 9 as a starter. Under the radar left Deontay Johnson on the bench for 18.

2 points. And I think guys that were starring  were a little riskier. Samaj Parin, that was really a question mark on who was going to get. The most production with Pacheco out there. I wouldn't have felt confident starting for in there and then Brock Bowers as well. I didn't like those two starts.

get it after the, what you'd seen in the past, but past performance is not predicting future. I think Deontay. Johnson only had one point something fantasy points the first two games. But I'd still put the potential higher than the other two. But I understand the call at least.

But definitely the biggest bench blunder of the week. I hate to say it, it goes to myself. I left Truva Hubbard on my bench.  Even though he'd been trending in a positive direction and things were looking better, and I kept Zemir White in, even though he was trending the other way, in a negative direction, and the end result was something that you could expect.

got uh, 22. 9 points, and Zemir White was very mediocre with 3. 4 points. I'm about done with him. I'm losing

should have accepted that trade, man.

should have, I guess. Well, that wasn't the part that I  about.  It was the Devo Samuel part, not the Zamir White part.  Yeah, but I, who wants to trade me for him? Crickets? Okay. so yeah, I get the bench blunder of the week and between that and maybe one other player on Chris's team that would have been the difference. I could have got the win there. One or two things broke my way. Moving on to waver wire wizard. There were a few things I liked, but there was one just blow away performance winner that I don't have any choice but to give it to him.

First, the pickups I liked. I liked uh, the the Carson Steel pickup. Kris got him, so I was facing him. Production wasn't crazy, but I still like it. I also liked your pickup of Tankdel, which

I mentioned that in last week actually Tankdel didn't do much for you and now he's injured. So it's not working out that great, but I still think he's a skilled guy.  There's still potential there, but it sucks that it's just there was an injury right away.

yeah, he's gonna chill on my bench, he'll be there for later.

yeah, but for now, I'm gonna give it to Chris Crunchyleaves, which compounds with my bench blunder against him. But I'm gonna give him the Wizard of the Week with his Juwan Jennings pickup.  That was a player who I had contemplating  getting and just Didn't pull the trigger. Oh, he's the guy actually that I opted for Kammakers instead, I think.

I forget what the waiver priority was, but I didn't choose him anyway, even if I would have had waiver priority, which I don't think I did. But he had three touchdowns, 175 yards, 11 receptions, 35. 5 fantasy points. There's your game. Between Jawan Jennings on Chris's team and Samir White in my starring lineup, that was the difference.

So both of those choices really made  all the difference that week. And I'm hitting myself over that one.  That one hurts.

Right now I'm not really happy with the score. I'm not going to give any spoilers, but it is two minute warning in the second quarter, and I'm not happy

Okay. Oh, I had just one random game note that is, I wanted to mention it a little out of order, but in the Detroit game, who was it, Detroit versus

versus

Cardinals, there was one particular play in it that's on the highlights that I'm like, oh my gosh, this is timely. It was a hook and ladder touchdown.

There you go.

Yeah Goff to Amon Ross St. Brown to Jameer Gibbs for the touchdown. You don't see those too often, but you had just earlier in the week shared with me a game that had a hook and ladder touchdown among some other crazy things.

Yeah.

2007 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl

Right. Boise

state versus Oklahoma.

Adrian Peterson's last game as a college football player  as an Oklahoma versus Boise State. I'm just going to say probably the best college football game I've ever seen, maybe even overall game I've ever seen.

Yeah. And I had never seen it, but thanks for sharing that with me. Those highlights were amazing. And having seen the hook and ladder touchdown, and then I see it in the NFL this week, you don't see it that often. I love seeing those trick plays. It's so fun.

especially because when they're actually drawn up to be like that versus Oh, it's the last play of the game. And so we're just going to lateral it or whatever. It's when it's actually, Hey, this is something that you didn't expect. Like  the Tennessee Titans versus Buffalo bills miracle in the playoffs  when Steve McNair took  super bowl and lost against the Rams, but they played.

Buffalo. I believe  that was crazy

Other than that, I've hit the stuff I want to hit in a shortened session.  Anything else  burning

No, I think, I think we covered everything we wanted to cover

So we're both going to check out that Cowboys Giants game, see how it goes.  and as for everyone else, set your lineups, check for any injury updates and get your waiver claims in. And we'll have a awesome week four in Smashville fantasy football.

That's it for this episode of the Smashville Fantasy Football Podcast! As always, we have aspirations of adequacy, so come back and we'll try to do a bit better next time. See you next week!
