Welcome back to Smashville Fantasy Football Podcast. We are at our mid season special,
Woo woop!
through the regular season. Seven games down, seven to go. know everyone's hoping for more than seven games with the playoffs coming, but it's not going to be the case for everyone. This episode is going to be a little special for us.
We're going to change it up, maybe not go as much into the matchup by matchup. Replays, but we got a special guest or two coming in. We're going to look back at the draft and see which players really fell short compared to where they were drafted and which people maybe got a really good deal.
I have some midseason awards. We'll call them sophomore superlatives to hand out as well for people.
Let's hop to it. I had one correction from last week.
We got into a little debate on Stefan Diggs.
Will thought that I had really ragged on him, been down on him and I was like, I don't know. It doesn't sound like me. I mean, maybe, but I did check back and I did a deep dive on what I had said on Stefan Diggs. I kept the receipts.
Episode one. Will, you said Stefan Diggs wouldn't go first round. I agreed with that. Definitely. I said Stefan Diggs is a guy that I like similar to Cooper Kuppp, but, he's probably an early fourth round pick now.
Then episode two, I did a mock draft that episode. I said I might get a guy like Diggs in the fourth round, other people he was even falling later, but I thought that was undercutting him. And then episode three was my last take on him that I found, and that was that other podcasters I'd been hearing, they'd been fading on Diggs more than Kupp and said he was over the hill, but that didn't necessarily mean that I faded on him. I was just noting what I've been hearing around. And FantasyPros did call your pick in round four, a slight reach, but I didn't necessarily agree with that at all.
They came from your mouth, so that's why I was like, you said this, but it wasn't you. You are just the messenger. So mildly apologize, but there's a reason why I thought that way.
Yeah. The words came out, but they weren't. but yeah, that's the only correction I got. So I think we can do a very quick recap of the matchups and the league landscape this week.
Every game was an upset, the team that was the worst rank, won. I, for instance, beat, no hard feelings last week, so I was a six over two. Something like that happened with every single game, which was funny to see all the teams that were quote unquote better than the other team just didn't get it.
You had the hot take last week: top eight currently is our playoffs. That's not in any danger yet. We did have one slight upset there, SimpleJack has moved up into playoff contention and Worst Eder Around has dropped out of the top eight, but that could easily change at this point.
The group is very tight.
Number three through the number eleven team are either four and three or three and four. Mixon It Purdy Good and myself are five and two and The Meg is one and six.
Well, she got her first win there. Everyone who was ranked higher in our league got upset and no one worse than myself. told you last week that I just couldn't allow her to win. I couldn't take it. yet it happened. Thankfully she doesn't have much to say about it at all.
So, what happened, basically, is she scored the most points she has all year. I scored the fewest points I have all year. So it's bad timing. Sometimes luck comes into play there. I also had three
injuries.
Pretty early in the game where I started the guys because they were healthy and then bad stuff happened.
Jayden Daniels went down with a rib injury pretty early in that game. Samuel was sick ahead of time. So I was a little iffy about starting him, but frankly, I didn't have a choice. needed every wide receiver I had available. He only played like three snaps and then he ended up afterwards in the hospital with pneumonia. That was a bad beat for me as well, and then perhaps the biggest blow was the trade I had just completed with, Crunchy Leaves, getting Brandon Aiyuk. He is out for the season now with a torn ACL, which is just
ACL,
MCL, I believe it's both, which is even worse.
So that was just a killer. Any hopes I had for him, out the window. He's not coming back this year. So basically I gave up DeAndre Swift and my kicker for Brandon Aubrey, so Aubrey's gonna ball out for me now.
At least I got his kicker out of it. That's the only saving grace. So that was the difference. My total points weren't great, but. They were just under 90, so it's not the most abysmal game in the world. I don't feel like I had any big blunders. I just had bad luck.
Aren't you wearing a Luck jersey right now?
I am wearing a Luck jersey.
I said it's just pretty bad luck.
I tried to make a pun, okay? Dad joke a little bit.
Alright. So I guess if you want to do a quick readout of the standings currently.
m Chase Me If You Can are 5 in that order. And then in order, sitting at 4 and 3 is gonna be Third through six, No Hard Feelings, No Fadin' on Jayden, which is Andrew, Wu-Tang Financial and Crunchy Leaves. Seven through 11, as I was talking about, are three and four, which would be Mitchy Mitch, Simple Jack Under the Radar, Worst Eder Around and Mint Berry Crunch.
And then the Meg coming in 12th right now at one and six,
There's hope. There's the smallest glimmer of hope for her.
We have an 8 team playoff. She's only two games
7, no chance. But there is a slim chance. I think maybe a little bit later we'll talk about what we might be able to do to increase her odds just a little bit. It's gonna be a Hail Mary anyway, but maybe.
This would be a good chance to like, see how we all got here because even to this point the biggest contributor to your team is the draft. It's the one biggest thing. If you drafted well, you're probably doing pretty well. If you drafted guys high that haven't produced and are producing way below their ADP, you're in a rough spot.
Will, I know you looked through the draft and how average points have compared to the draft positions, and we have some sleepers to highlight, as well as some, draft busts that have happened this year. And I think that excludes injuries, right? Because you can't predict things like the ACL tears and stuff.
I wouldn't count that against anyone.
so If they tore their ACL second game into the season or something like that, it doesn't count or if they've only played one game. For instance, Russell Wilson, he's only played one game. He is not included in this list. Keep that in mind.
So if you don't hear your player like, hey, they've averaged so many points per game, it's probably because they've only played one game or maybe two.
Yeah. I mean, it's hard to separate injuries entirely because Some guys, it's like, Oh, they were injured for a game or two and that's affected stuff. But I'm not going to blame anyone for drafting Christian McCaffrey.
Exactly. McCaffrey isn't on this bust list at all. Was surprising that he's been out this long. We didn't even really know that he was going to be out at all during the draft. And even then, No Hard Thielens is still in a good enough position where I don't think it really matters.
I looked at the top 50 players and I took the top three players from every position group. So quarterback, running back, and then wide receiver slash tight end. And I just took the top three and made a list of those, as well as taking all the players that I didn't mention in the first round. And then I spat him out there, maybe this was the end of being a reacher, definitely isn't working out for you. And then I also went through some of the players in the top 50, was shocked to see there. And where did they go in the draft? So those are the sleepers, that they're getting really good value out of their picks.
Let's hear it. I have my own list and I'll highlight where I'm in agreement as well.
One overall player points so far this year is Lamar Jackson. He is averaging 26. 84 points per game. He was picked round four pick two by Mitchie Mitch. And then we had Baker Mayfield, who I was kind of surprised to see up at the number three overall spot, just because Russell Wilson was technically in the number two spot. Round 14, pick three by mixing it pretty good. Great pick there. And then the number three overall quarterback was Jordan Love. Round eight, pick seven by myself, chase me if you can, volume two.
My analysis is more looking forward from this point, not what they've already done. The consensus rankings that I used from fancy pros is what I'm comparing to draft position here.
So I have Lamar Jackson as a. Steel, where he's ranked going forward 16 spots ahead of his draft position. So that was a good one. Even better for my analysis is Baker Mayfield. He's just been
incredible compared to what you expected, drafting him way down at number 159, producing so well, and he's ranked about 40 spots ahead of that in the consensus all positions ranking. He's been just better than you could hope for. And then Jordan loves up there as well. 35.
Spots ahead of where he was picked. Guys that I think maybe even,
could be argued to be above that because of where they were drafted, um, are Jayden Daniels because, he was drafted even lower than a couple of those guys, lower than Love Lamar Jackson, definitely. And he's been one of the top quarterbacks as well. Currently ranked 51 spots ahead of his draft position. I think we agreed on the quarterbacks pretty well. But I wanted to give a shout out to Jayden Daniels. I have Geno Smith in there as well. He was drafted super late round. Pick 173. So, third round from the end, and he's, uh, ranked 85 spots ahead of that. There's some value in there too that, the Meg found. She had Geno Smith.
For running backs, the number one running back was Derek Henry. He was number five overall sitting at 22. 64 points, round one pick ten by mixing it pretty good.
It's hard to get a steal
in round one. Compared to how good he's been, I do think it's a steal, actually. He's the number one running back. Drafted number ten first round? That's a win. So I'd consider it a steal that was a great pick for sure.
Yeah, definitely high performer. The next high performer would be Saquan Barkley. He was the number two, overall scoring average. Number 10 overall amongst all the different players of any position. Round two, picked two by Mitchy, Mitch.
Yep. That was a big steal in my book too.
Then mixing it pretty good. Obviously picks up Joe Mixon,
So right after Saquon Barkley, you got. Mixon and round three, pick ten. That was probably gonna be the biggest differential of those three.
Of those three, yeah. I have Joe Mixon, projected to produce 21 spots above his draft position. Derek Henry was eight spots above. But you can't really expect more than that, given it's round one. Saquan Barkley, 13 spots ahead,
Which is great.
We'll go on to wide receivers. For wide receivers, , A. J.. Brown was picked by Mintberry Crunch, averaging 19. 13 points per game. That's number one amongst the wide receivers. Number 16 overall round one pick nine.
Pretty good. Jamar Chase is number two picked by myself, 15. 87 points. So there's a big discrepancy in terms of number one versus number two by receiver. Number 29 overall, amongst all players average pregame, round one, pick six, and then No Hard Thielens pick Nico Collins, who's currently on IR, but had a very good season up to that point with 15. 74 points round 2 pick 12,
Over performers, some players to note. Alvin Kamara, picked up by no hard feelings. Round four, pick 12, averaging 15. 87 points. around five points behind Saquon Barkley, who was round 2, pick 2. So doing a great job of keeping up for value pick.
Alvin Kamara is definitely an honorable mention on that list for me as well.
Worst eater round, had David Montgomery, who was round 5, pick 12, averaging 14. 42 points. SimpleJack had, Brian Robinson Jr.
I was just searching his name. Actually,
Yeah, so round
8 pick 6, that's a pretty
late pick for 1 and averaging 13. 9 points. That is nothing to complain about.
I also had Kenneth Walker in there, my own guy.
Cause he has been injured a bit, so you gotta exclude those injury games but he's, ranked going forward 17 spots ahead of his, Pick number 26, beginning of the third round there.
And then later in the draft, I had, Rico Dowdle in there who you had for a while.
He was drafted pretty late, but he eventually got cut and you picked him up on waivers. And then, Chuba Hubbard's been killing
it for me. Chuba Hubbard, I got pick 143 and just because, Jonathan Brooks hasn't seen the field yet, Hubbard's been a great value pick for me. Actually, 75 picks ahead of where he was drafted.
And then I had to include myself with J. K. Dobbins. Round 15 pick 6. I said it before in one of the other episodes, and I'll say it again. J. K. Dobbins, that's the reason why you don't take a kicker so early.
13. points.
I have him as the biggest value draft position because you did draft him pick 174, and he's ranked going forward 121 picks ahead of that.
Uh oh! no!
just crashing this?
you know, I had to come here and brag that I, defeated you pretty badly this I do. I
surprise burn!
Oh this is The Meg, my wife Megan.
Victorious last week
she can't brag too much because
she studies fantasy football all day and all night, right? Of course she beat me.
gave her a reminder earlier in the week to set your line up.
no, no. no.
I wish I hadn't did it there. I said I wanted a fair
fight, but I
kind of in
I need to do mine. No, you said I'm going to do my lineup. And then I was like, Oh my God, do mine.
Yeah. Well, okay. You're sitting at one and six. So what's the limit for you here?
Oh, by the way, you still need to do the dishes.
because I kicked your butt. Better get on
That was the wager. Oh boy.
Yeah. Loser does do dishes. That's fair. Good for you. Good for you. All right. Little, little golf clap, but
you know, you've got to carry it on from here. One win's good, but it's not going to
get you to the playoffs.
I can pull up here.
on Fantasy Pros. I had told you a couple of weeks ago, it gave you a less than 1 percent chance of playoffs at the time, 0 4, 0 5. It hasn't gone up. I'm surprised. No, it's still at less than 1%. I'm actually surprised. I would put it at least at 2%. um,
know, this past game was the
game to be. So
Hey, you know, it's kind of like Purdue IU, you know? If you can win the Purdue IU game, that's a winning season.
That's exactly right.
Maybe we can help you get a couple more wins in there to get those odds up and at least give you. Shot in the dark chance. So, I'm gonna put on my, uh, my stethoscope and, let's diagnose your team here and see if we can be the fantasy football doctors here and see what you can do to turn that one win into three or four.
I'm not going to keep this on. It really is uncomfortable,
Does Harrison know you took that? Because he'd be pretty upset.
don't tell him. Please
I'm gonna tell
him.
He will destroy me.
Okay. So I think we could spend a couple minutes, in the middle of our rankings here to look at your team. Will, do you have any ideas? What does she need to do to give her a fighting chance
I feel like almost leverage one of our players to get a couple of players to fill out wide receiver position.
You got T. Higgins for me, which has worked out very well for you. That trade, getting Chris Olave from you hasn't been as well for me, but T is your best wide receiver now, and then you got Bijan Robinson at running back. I'd be afraid to trade them away.
I don't know, Will, how do you feel about that? Do you try to turn those into more startable guys, or do you just keep your best guys and try to pick up
someone
I, I think you try to package that in with try to turn that into something more consistent where you can get maybe seven or eight points, per game out of two players instead of just 13 points out of one,
Yeah, I mean, you definitely have some players with very, very low projections. And I agree, you gotta do something about that. There are guys on the waiver wire. If you can get yourself to be a little more active week to week. And pick up some guys. There are guys out there that are producing more than, some of your guys that you can find.
Or even just take a shot in the dark on some of them. If you're like, Hey, this player hasn't scored more than four points or five points per game, this whole season, not really going to be someone that you're going to really miss if you swing and you miss, you're probably going to get someone that's the same. So If you swing and get a hit, that's going to be better than what you have. So you don't really have anything to lose at that point.
would say, look through the wide receivers and try to get someone, I'll give you a freebie, probably shouldn't
You're gonna give me one of your guys?
no, no, no. I'm going to give you a free tip. Look at getting DeAndre Hopkins. He was just traded to the chiefs. And it's,
Let me get my notebook.
More opportunities.
He's a former superstar player. He's not going to be the same player. He was, but he could still be a productive player. I think with to him. He hasn't done well this year. That's why he's on the waiver wire, but his prospects
wait, wait, wait,
from
So he is on Taylor Swift's boyfriend's team
You sound like my wife.
I mean i'll have to get him if that's the case
Yeah, he was on the Titans having no one good throwing to him. And now he is on a championship contending team that has tons of injuries to wide receivers. So they're looking for someone to throw to.
He will be a Target.
Who's all out with the Chiefs? We have
Hollywood Brown, Rashee Rice.
Juju had an injury in there, I think.
But yeah, there
But regardless, this is someone that will be receiving targets that they might
not have gotten if they were on the team before those injuries.
it could be a difference maker for you. And other than that, you have two quarterbacks that are both solid.
You could try to swap them in and out each week of your starting lineup based on who's facing the worst team that they can just tear up. You could look at the waiver wire to pick up a favorable defense or kicker based on the week. You have a really solid defense in Denver, but I'm sure they have some harder matchup some weeks than others.
So I think if you play the matchups and find out when they're facing just garbage teams, Yahoo color codes it for you and, says when it's going to be a good matchup for them. So that can help, that'll give you a little bit of an edge. And like Will was saying, you got to trade some assets at this point.
He has a little bit of a different take than me. He's thinking maybe trade. one of your best guys and get two very solid guys. That might be the way to go. I'm a little afraid to do it, but that's just me. Definitely look to get some value from, Pacheco, who's on your injured reserve because odds are, he's not going to see the field for your team.
Cause he's only coming back at the playoffs. But Isaiah Pacheco could have some value for another team. That's looking to make a playoff run and you could turn them into a player you could start now. You're in win now mode, so do not look for guys that are going to get you a win in five weeks.
Trade for guys that'll get you a win now. I think you could make a deal giving Pacheco to someone for a wide receiver or even a different running back. Mint Berry Crunch could be a potential trade partner for you. He only has Mahomes as his quarterback, who's really been underperforming.
You have two solid quarterbacks that I think have been performing better. Maybe you give him a quarterback and Pacheco if, he looks to, push for a playoff run, and maybe you get a better running back now out of it. Maybe Under the Radar you could make a trade with for similar reasons.
He's a little short on running back. So you'd probably have to look for a wide receiver from him. my thoughts to maybe sneak another couple wins in there. And then who knows what happens? Maybe you'll get lucky again, like you did against me this week.
I was saying maybe I just leave it all the same. I did
it been working out prior to this week? How's it been
I'm, i'm on a lucky streak right now. I shouldn't touch it
A streak? Can we define a streak?
I'll let you two sort that one out.
I better let you go before I get myself in the doghouse anymore. Unless you have anything else to taunt me with before you go.
she should take your spot so you can do the dishes,
Oh, I like
that idea.
to that a little later.
Alright. Love you, Megan.
the
advice.
in.
Bye!
Wow, okay. So now that we're done with that, we'll go back to where we were. Uh, yeah, so J. K. Davids, round 15, pick 6, 13.
07 points.
JK Dobbins huge for you.
I went to having them on my bench and probably be like I might start them when my team's got some buys or maybe potential injury, and now he's part of my starting lineup. Did you have any others to add to that?
I have Bucky Irving in there just because he was drafted even after Dobbins So he was a bit of a steal. He's had some good games in there some not as great games too.
Mason Bigsby were not drafted whatsoever. Mason was not
drafted because Christian McCaffrey was expected to maybe miss one game or two from our perspective and then, I think Bixby was not picked up whatsoever and now has turned into a big deal.
This isn't including waiver pickups and everything. Terry McLaurin was pretty good as well. He started off slow, but he really has been excelling as of late. He's a rank 31 positions above his draft spot currently. Let's see, who'd we talk about Brian Thomas Jr. or Brian Robinson Jr.
I was talking about Brian Robinson, Jr. Washington
Oh, and I also had Brian Thomas Jr., wide receiver, as a pretty good value. They were both picked one after the other, and they're both approximately 50 spots ranked ahead of that. Going forward. So those were good ones too. My Jameson WilLambs has been very streaky and now he's suspended for two games. But considering how late I got him, I still think it was a bit of a steal. I just need him to keep producing.
Speaking of suspended.
Yeah.
I heard some interesting news today.
Baker Mayfield might have a one game suspension
Really? What for? I
for tobacco products in game.
Yeah, he had some chew in his mouth on the sidelines and that's prohibited from being in the game or on the sidelines
What is this? Major League Baseball?
I don't know but that has been a thing.
I read that today. I don't know if that's true. I don't know any of those facts. But it is something I read on the internet and that was surprising to me. So I just wanted to I just I must be true.
Just call me Boomer.
I haven't heard it yet. I don't see anything on the notes, but that doesn't mean it's not, in the news coming up.
he also doesn't mean they have to suspend him, it just means that the appropriate Punishment would be a suspension, for one game.
Some of the maybe reaches in the hindsight 2020 category would be, under the radar with Brees Hall. He's been averaging 12.
79 points, which isn't bad, but that's not something you'd want from your first round pick expect something a bit better. the Meg had Robin, her first pick, I believe,
with 13 points B. John Robinson at 13. 2 again, not, not bad, but at the same
Yeah. That early. I have him a couple spots down from
And this is just also, it's just also me running through the rest of the first round draft picks, we hadn't mentioned yet,
I forgot. It wasn't necessarily under performers, but rather this is what the rest of the first round has done. So I should correct this part of the segment. No Fadin' on Jayden had picked up CD Lamb, with 11. 07 points so far this season. It's been okay for a first round draft pick.
Crunchy Leaves on the other hand Tyreek hill with 7. 09
that guy?
points so far per game. This has
got to be
not
noted
he's not on, crunchy leaves anymore.
No, because his outlook going forward,
drafted by Crunchy Leaves. I should say drafted
There
you go.
Yeah, he's looking to, get back
to top form here. So I'm happy with that.
But Yeah, to this
We'll say
be a disappointment. And it's not even because of his own injury. It's because of a different person's injury.
Yeah.
three quarterbacks and he can't
make anything happen with any of them.
And then you had, uh, St. Brown by Wu Tang Financial with 11. 4 points. Been okay. Nothing crazy. Worst Eder Around. Garrett Wilson with 9. 21 points.
I have him on one of my other fantasy football team. I am really sad.
Yeah, I know. Big bust. And not looking great going forward me because Devante Adams is going to soak up your targets. It's already starting. Adams didn't have a big game yet, but
and Rogers has been. So
I don't like him going forward anymore. I was looking at him as a potential, Bi Lo candidate.
Not anymore. Bust of a pick for me.
Those were just the other first round picks. Those were not necessarily underperformers. Just this is how they're stacking up compared to some of the other, top performers that we've already seen and talked about in each category.
I'll just throw in a few that I thought were a bit of busts going here. Marvin Harrison Jr. There was an injury for a game in there
How has he been doing? Has he actually been performing at all? Because he was going really high on a lot
I mean, he's been performing okay, but not
Like first round. Okay. Or people, people got too excited about him.
People got too excited. His game 2 was just amazing, and it was like, Oh wow, that is gonna be a great pick, but he didn't reproduce it to other games, really. So that was a bit of a bust for me.
He's ranked, going forward, 39 spots below his draft position in our league of number 18. So that's a little bit of a bust. And then Travis Etienne, huge bust. Fortunately for you, Will, you have Tank Bigsby, as we've talked about.
Etienne, drafted right after Marvis and Harrison Jr. Projected 91st ranked player going forward.
Discrepancy of 72.
Places, so that was a big bust. There were some moderate busts after that. My own Debo Samuel's been a little bit disappointing. Chris Olave, little disappointing. Pretty much all the tight ends. Travis Kelsey, Sam Laporta. They're all disappointing. I had Anthony Richardson.
I'm glad I didn't jump on him round 5. I picked him up now off waivers because I might as well see if anything good happens. So I'm not sweatin it. Zamir White was probably my biggest bust of a draft pick. Whew! I mean, I drafted him 74th, so it's not like I spent a really high round on him. He got dropped. He's done nothing at all. Even with the starting job, he just looked awful. He's ranked 195th going forward. You had a similar experience with Ezekiel Elliott, Will, where you drafted him a couple rounds later than that, but you had to drop him. He did nothing. And then drafted very late, but it been and how
Ooh. Titans. Go Titans.
Yeah, He wasn't drafted early, but he shouldn't have been drafted at all in retrospect. Hindsight's 20 20, though. All right. Well, we want to cover going forward, Chris. came in, so
you offer a unique perspective for us.
Yeah. How's the
podcast going?
That's going well.
Welcome back. It's been a hot minute. Haven't
it has halfway through the season.
So you brought me in because I'm the stat nerd And uh,
I've been keeping and the commish and the commish. That's right. Put some respect on my name. I've got all the stats from all the games, all the seasons.
We could take a look at where we're at and how we've done historically, if you want.
Definitely.
top Left season, 2024. This is our current season. You can see Sarah is in first, she's five and two Sarah's average points sitting at a one 28, which is like seven, 17 more than well, that is impressive. If I click on her, I can filter down. You can see the actual games down here at the bottom left.
She had two games this season that came within seven points of our all time.
Wow.
scoring record. So week one, she got 177. 74 points. Week four, she got 173. 07 points. Both of those are astonishingly high scores.
We've only had five players in the history of the league that have scored above 170 points in a game.
There's only been five players to do it. She's got two of those games.
This season, which is pretty incredible.
Oh, look at that wind percentage for me though.
If you want to, you want to sort historically by win
percentage
a tie. It's a,
three way tie there, but
it, hold on, hold on. Let me see if it is actually a tie. Let's see if we can
get some more details. It is not a tie.
below 60%.
It is not
a tie. If we look at the rounding, if we
look at the
Wow.
Andrew,
that 59.
6 percent way, that's all time. So that's regular season and playoffs including your two championship wins. Congratulations, multi champion. One of two
gosh. It's hard to get an edge though. I'm surprised the top
person, Caitlin, is only 60%.
It really is kind of astonishing, in the middle everybody is, except John Slack down here at the bottom, who's
mean, even that he's almost at 40. You range from 40 to 60 percent win.
And that makes all the difference.
He's almost the exact inverse of Caitlin's record. They've been in the league, about the same amount of time. This is our Overall league history through week seven. So these are all the managers that are in the league currently through week seven, the average rank of everybody, with the exception of slack, all 11 players in the league through week seven have averaged a playoff spot.
That is interesting.
Now that is not. Sustainable going forward, right? Because there's only eight playoff spots. We've got 12 people in the league, but I thought
Yeah,
the
former players did not perform very well
yeah. Some people, fall off probably the rest of the season. So this is history after week seven. If you look at average rank everybody in the league throughout their history with the exception of John Sl is averaging above a playoff position. So, interesting. I don't know what to draw from that. I don't know if you can draw anything from
I mean,
either stiff competition or everyone's equally mediocre.
I think everybody's probably equally mediocre. Yeah,
I think it's also saying that the owners that are no longer part of the fantasy football league were not as involved maybe it was the best way to put it.
That's a part of it. It's also an average rank. So if
you're ranked one through most of one year and then 12th, the other year that averages out to,
you know, middle of the pack. Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, that's how the averages work given that it's over the course of several years.
I think it's interesting to see, Andrew and myself, history through week seven versus history after week seven by average rank. We've both moved up
That's right. Andrew through week seven is averaging 5. 8. Will is averaging 6. 02. And then after week seven. From week eight through the rest of the season, Andrew averages a 4. 4. So that's an increase of 1.
4 average rank and wills going up to 5. 2. So not quite as high about three quarters of a rank, but, you can see that kind of turning around, which is actually something to take a look at well.
So if you're looking at. This current season, you're five and two. You're sitting in second place right now. Your average rank is actually a 7. 29. And if I, click on you, this graph below is points scored by week. You can see you're picking up steam, right? So week one, you scored 89 points.
Week two, you were down to. 80. 1, but ever since then, you've been steadily creeping up with the exception of this past week because it's hard to, you went 135 and week 5, 139 and week 6, and then last week, 124, which is still a highly respectable score. Hard to keep that train going up, but you can see.
Your rank went from 9 to 11 to 8 to 6 to 4 to 2. don't know if you've been actively making changes other than switching players in and out. I know that you've had a couple trades with some people or tried to at least. Whatever you're doing is certainly having an effect on the productivity of your team and your current standings in the league.
I would say probably the first thing is I didn't start JK Dobbins, for the first two weeks. That's a huge part of it.
He's done better now.
He's crushed it. He's crushed it I think every week that he's had. I think that's really the biggest thing. I wasn't sure on that. Was it a one, one hit wonder. Okay. Two. All I'll, I'll give him a shot and it's worked out also
Yeah. And you can see down here, matchup results week one and two, you lost Oh, and two. And then you've gone on a five and a win streak ever since. I don't think anybody else has reeled off five in a row.
It's only you and Sarah that even have five wins, right? So she lost this week.
Yeah, I play her this week. So
You play her this week. Interesting. let's see what the real quick.
are my favorite. I
love looking at those trendlines to see which players get better as the season goes on, and you've showed me in past years too, so it's always interesting to see, which teams just trail off as they either lose interest or injuries take a toll and they can't replace the guys.
I should get one of these charts put together by rank too each week. This is just by points scored. I know what you're talking about. Those are really cool to look at. This is another screen we could take a look at if you wanted to. These are the matchups that we have coming up this week.
And the historical results. throughout the league. This middle column here are the playoff matchups and wins. There's only two rematches of playoff matches this week. Will played Sarah in a playoff match at one point. Will got the win. And then Andrew, you played Chris Andres in a playoff match at one point.
Chris actually got the win. But other than that, just regular season meetups. I'm playing Mitch, I'm four and two overall against him. Sarah is three and four you guys are pretty evenly matched throughout the course of the league history.
It'll be interesting to see what happens this year because you're both top of the ticket. Where's the projection at for that right now? Oh, it's close. 102. 7 to 102. 83 right now. 50 50.
One thing I'm seeing in there, Slack versus, the Meg. She's got five wins to his one. So maybe she goes,
Maybe she gets two
in a row
in a row. It starts a streak. It's looking pretty good. I'll have
She's turning it
around.
actually talk about a streak.
She's
the way, by the way, She talked about she's on the streak earlier
when she popped in so we're gonna have to figure out. Hey, is this what is a streak like we look up a definition for that? But yeah, after two she we can
no one else she'd rather be facing. I think this week,
That's 11 verse 12 in the league this week. So we've got 1 verse 2 at the top of the ticket. We've got 11 verse 12 at the bottom. Although right now, Slack has a 10 point lead in the projections. So that could be close for her. Could be tough.
It's always fun when you get rematches of championship teams, championship matchups, we don't have any of those this week.
Given the number of years that we've done this. I'm surprised
yeah, yeah,
from
you know, what's kind of funny, and, it's not super relevant because we're not playing this week, but I have actually played Dan Gilfridge twice in the championship throughout the history of the league, and I won one and I lost one, so we're due for a repeat. Gotta break the tie.
I gotta still win my first one.
Are there any questions about historical matches or who won in what season that you guys want to know that I could answer?
I want to see that points per week chart again.
You wouldn't happen to have one that averages out the years or anything, would you
No, I haven't
Okay,
that's okay. Um, can you bring up mine again? I saw it for
a minute and it was just
You're up and
the place. I'm so up and down.
So I mean, you're still
up, down, up, down. I'm hopefully going to have a good week this week. Given that
for the most
part.
are streaky and they're getting injured and then healthy. I've got potential, but I just can't put together a real streak of strong games.
I feel like this year has been really tough all around to try and find consistency in the players. I have players all over my team that are, 15 points one week and two points. The next,
Does anyone else have a really strong trend line up or down?
Good question.
Caitlin's trending down.
this year.
Yeah. Sarah's kind of bumping up in the middle. Yeah. Dan's kind of up and down. I'm up and down. Although trending down.
down.
Mitch is starting to tick up
Down,
That's going
to be hard to continue though because he was 160 last
week.
Could be a
Yeah, because that Y axis is not the same for every single
No, it's adjusting, yeah.
Chris is trending down a little bit. Mike's probably sitting level if you averaged it out. For the most part, everybody's kind of just hanging out in the same average range each week it looks like. Um, but you,
him.
yeah, right, right, right,
yeah.
I
mean, if you, if
she's getting better, but it was a low bar to start the season,
right, right.
at, uh, 60 something, 70 points, there's only one place to go from there, you could go up from it.
Yeah. And Andrew, I am so glad that it was not me that lost to her for the first time this season.
Yeah,
And it was you.
oh, we covered it, it was just some bad, bad breaks.
There were some injuries I had. Unpredictable stuff.
Yeah. I, barely eked it out. It was a close one. I was nervous about it, but her team drastically underperformed at the last minute and it was wonderful.
That is the league history through week seven.
thanks for coming on to share it.
Absolutely. Anytime. We'll catch up soon. Good luck this
Yeah, we'll have
we'll have to do one talking more about the playoffs.
OH, that'd be great.
I can put that together. I have it marked off.
Alrighty.
Alright, thanks Chris.
How much do you want to talk about any games week? I honestly didn't watch hardly anything. I felt kind of burned
out on games. So I didn't catch much. I don't have too many comments on it.
Yeah, I was pretty busy. So I didn't really see a whole lot. I saw a little bit of the Green Bay Packer game. I just did a little bit of catch up through plays . did want to do a quick little heads up on is I did end up having a trade with Worst Eder Around where I traded away Tankdell, Rico, Donald, Derek Carr, Nick Chubb, who played this last week and is probably going to start next week, for Tyron Tracy Jr.
Hoping that he comes around getting. the starting job for New York, Sam Darnold, now replaces Derek Carr as my backup. He's had a much better year, so far than Derek Carr, both backups. So it's not the end of the world. And then I'd get, Puka Nacua, who is still currently in IR and from what I have heard has not necessarily found a time to come back. Allegedly questionable for week eight sound like most likely week nine,
especially with it
being a Thursday night game. I'm not getting hurt too bad on that where I'm going to be missing a key white out for too long. But at the same time, now I'm a little bit light on the running back situation.
If Tyrone Tracy jr. Does not manage to keep the starting job.
Yeah, it was an interesting trade. I told you last week that I found it hard to get those, four for three trades done, but you got it done there. I feel like it was a fair trade. I was having trouble deciding which side I like more. But at the end of the day, you got who should be the most skilled position in it, in Puka Nacua.
Guess I'd give you the win on that. It's good to get the top guy in a trade package.
Yeah, just now I'm concerned whether JK Dobbins and Tank Digsby will be healthy enough or stay productive because I don't really have someone to fall back on because Travis Etienne is the handcuffed Tank Bigsby and most likely they're going to be like, we've given it to Tank Bigsby.
He's not working out anymore and we're going to switch and I'm not going to be able to pick that up in real time. So I kind of have to hope for the best.
yeah,
I don't know if I'd do it over again. At this stage, maybe a little bit of buyers or traders remorse, but I'm also not hating my decision. I'm just not necessarily sold on the decision,
I've got a huge potential to keep that upward momentum going as a Chris was showing
yeah. Chris surprised me with a trade offer that I wasn't expecting. You know, I'd completed that trade the previous week with him, and it was disastrous for me because of injury and then out of nowhere he offers me the guy who I had really wanted instead. In Tyreek Hill, that's who I had originally wanted to trade for
I think he was just over Hill, tired of waiting for him to produce, so he asked for Amari Cooper one for one, and I took it. I'm high on Amari Cooper, given the trade, but not as high as I am on Tyreek Hill.
With a healthy starter QB. Yeah. That's what I wanted in the first place. If he had just, shown interest in that from the get go, I could have avoided the whole, Aiyuk, fiasco.
hopefully
I get one win out of there in my two trades. So your hot take that, I'll complete five trades as a seasons looking pretty good. Cause I unexpectedly got a fourth in this week. and by the way, since I mentioned Hot Take, my Hot Take that I said was a spicy one, did not come to pass.
I said there'd be no undefeated teams in the NFL this week. I had said that the Chiefs would be the last one technically. Because the Lions did beat the Vikings first. But the 49ers, did not beat the Chiefs. I underestimated the role of injuries on their team, and it just got worse for them, and they really lost control of the game in the second half Chief's still undefeated. I'm still a little underwhelmed by him, but they got DeAndre Hopkins coming their way. That could help things out a bit at wide receiver.
I'm just gonna stay on the DeAndre Hopkins topic because that trade really interests me. I'm gonna say that he gets a touchdown in double digit fantasy points in his first game in Kansas City. think they'll be looking for him. He's not going to be like the superstar player in years past, but I think he can get double digits at a decent rate this season, not every week, look for him to score in this first game and have a nice welcome party to Kansas City.
That's my hot take for the week. What else you want to talk about? I have a slew of awards to give out since
Yeah, let's just go start to go go through awards where we're
starting to run
since it's mid season, I wanted to give some awards for players that have, really excelled or stood out in one way or another.
first award is the Nostradamus Award. And this is the player who had the greatest accuracy in their start and sit selections for the week. They started the players they should have, sat the players they should have. And that is No Hard Thielens with a league leading start and sit accuracy rate of 89.
2 percent this season. Very closely behind her was Mitt Berrycrunch. I had checked earlier, before all the games were done, and he was actually in first until near the very end. But his start and sit accuracy is 88. 9%. But there's no second place for Nostradamus, so it
womp.
Um,
why she's got the highest win percentage in the league
history.
Next up we have a, dual badge here. The mirror inverse of each other. I got the Luck of the Irish and the Bad Beat badge. Luck of the Irish badge, goes to the player that maybe didn't score the Most points. They wouldn't have won a lot of the matchups in the week, but they won the matchup.
They had to win against the person they were playing. They had four leaf clover in their pocket or something like that. And that goes to crunchy leaves. He must have a lucky rabbit's foot, four leaf clover, something like that because he's winning, 57.1%. of,
matchups, but only has a 39 percent win rate in all play standings. So if he played every team in the league every week, he would only win 39 percent of the games. He may rank sixth at four and three, but in all play standings, he'd be way down at 11th with a record of 30 and 47. Mitchie Mitch, however, may want to borrow some of crunchy leaves is good luck there. Because he has the bad beat badge. In the all play standings, he has a terrific 61 percent win rate, but he's only gone 3 4. Sitting in 7th. If he played every player every, week, 2nd with a record of 47 30.
That's just bad luck, man. Mitchy Mitch, just keep doing what you're doing. I hope your luck turns around. Will, you get my En Fuego medal, because you're on the hot streak. You know what that's about.
Ooh.
five matchups there. Yeah. And then perhaps the most coveted award I have, the Smashville Sovereign Trophy.
And could you guess who this would go to? Who's kicking butt and taking names?
The most this season. No,
but it is mixed it pretty good. Yeah, she's setting the pace for the rest of the league and impressive 898 points. She led the league in week one with 178 points, highest score this season, and dominated very crunch, with uh, win 92.
2 points that same week. But it really hasn't gone much downhill from there. She's kept it up with one or two exceptions. She's king of the hill, no doubt about it. So that is your mid season awards, everyone. Print it out, put it on your wall, shove it in everyone's face for the rest of the year.
Give yourself a cookie.
Other than that, I will just briefly mention my weekly Waver Wire Wizards and Bench Blunders. For the Waver Wire Mint Berry Crunch picked up Rashad Bateman. He had a really good game, 121 yards and a touchdown, 22. 1 fancy points. So if you hadn't gotten him early enough, he'd probably get taken this week.
The only thing that would have been better is if they had added him earlier in the week, instead of playing, Marvin Mims Jr. Thursday night. So you would have had to be a little more proactive there. Actually have him on the other side as a Bench Blunder, putting Marvin Mims in there instead of picking up a new guy to sub.
Because Marvin Mims doesn't deserve to be anywhere near your fantasy roster at this point. But you know, I can't quite give the Blunder Award to him given that Rashad Bateman wasn't technically on his team yet. I just would have liked to see him pick him up earlier.
Even better going forward, though, I'm gonna give the Waverwire Wizard this week to No Hard Feelins for picking up Romeo Dobbs.
Had a solid 9. 4 fantasy points, but better than that, had 8 catches, 10 targets, 94 yards. If that keeps up, you gotta love those numbers going forward. That gives me hope that Dobbs is not going to be super streaky going forward, getting like 100 yards off of two receptions or something like that.
So my waiver wizard is no hard feelings. As for the other bench blunders, other than a little bit very crunch, we had Crunchy Leaves choosing Braylon Allen over Rashad White. I get being iffy about Rashad White. Tampa Bay. You have a three running back committee. I get being uncertain. So it's not so much what I think Rashad White would do on a week by week basis. Had 10 carries, 23 fantasy points, but what did you see in Braylon Allen earlier this year to give you confidence in starting him? 2 carries, 0. 6 fantasy points.
I just didn't see any evidence in previous weeks that you'd start him over any random person. Last of all, despite being our Smashville Sovereign, I'm gonna give the Bench Blunder to Mixin It Pretty Good this week. And maybe that's why she lost. She, left Rashid Shaheed in her starring lineup while on injured reserve.
It wasn't like a last second addition. And also started, Zach Moss at Rainback instead of Joe Mixon. Joe Mixon had
been healthy now. I think it was just a matter of not managing your roster, before the upcoming games. Joe Mixon had come off a massive 26.
2 point game performance last week and scored 24. 4 fantasy points this week. So, you gotta get Mixon in there going forward. That is my bench blunder of the week. She's not gonna cry over it too much given her overall standings, but don't make too many more of those or you could find yourself slipping down those rankings.
Especially because the field is so tight, three straight losses could be basically putting you on the verge of getting kicked out of the playoffs.
yeah, and then my hot take about her will be right. Who knows? If that happens, big if. Unless you have some other stuff, that is All I had for this week. I had a lot of fun this time, especially bringing on some familiar faces from our league and shooting the breeze with everyone.
It was great.
Yeah, I think next week we're going to maybe even talk a little bit about where the football website they use, where it projects everyone to finish. Where it's project everyone to finish. We might start off the next week's episode talking about that. And also if we miss someone that you think also did well, please feel free to comment. Or send us a message. How did they stack up in terms of average draft position? We can look it up for you and we can mention next week's episode.
All right. We're halfway through guys. I gotta say, I wasn't sure we'd make it this far. I'm glad we have. Let's finish out the season strong and have a lot of good talks between now and the end.
Have a good one.
That's it for this episode of the Smashville Fantasy Football Podcast! As always, we have aspirations of adequacy, so come back and we'll try to do a bit better next time. Who knows? We may even reveal that one sneaky trick guaranteed to win your fantasy league. But until then, keep those trades rolling and get your lineups set before kickoff.
See you next week!
